4. The First Meet

Abhiraj's POV

"Bhaisa (brother)!" called out my brother Vivek as we were on our way to the Shekhawat mansion. I looked at him and he said,
"I was thinking we should discuss the matter of that highway property today itself."

"Not today," I declared.

But he insisted, "You know how important that property is—"

I cut him off, "Listen, we can talk about business any other day. Today is such a precious and happy occasion for the Shekhawats. And we already know how grumpy Ranveer gets on this topic, so let it be."

He nodded. And truly, who are we to ruin someone's happiness? I wish if... I stopped my thoughts midway and shrugged them off.

Suddenly, our car stopped when a woman came running in front of the jeep. We quickly got out.
"Can't you drive properly?" Vivek shouted at the driver.

"Vivek, it's not his fault," I said, then looked at the woman. She was murmuring something unconsciously.
"Raj... raj... she is in dan...ger," she whispered, pointing to the left.

"Vivek, take her to the hospital!" I ordered. He nodded, but just as he was about to take her, she grabbed my hand and weakly muttered,
"Ku... Kunwarsa... rajkumari... Am... Amrita..." Then she fainted.

"Bhaisa, I will be wi—" Vivek started, but I cut him off, "You go with her, I'll look for the rajkumari."

After they left, I turned towards the direction she had pointed. A horse was standing near a tree. I quickly mounted it and rode towards the village temple.

After some time, I saw a crowd gathered there. One of the men was about to strike a woman with a stick, but she caught it before it could hit her. I needed to reach there fast.

Amrita's pov

"Tumhari itni himmat!!" I shouted as I grabbed the stick from that man and threw it away.

Then I glared at all of them, my voice sharp and fearless, "If you filthy people forget your limits, remember I am not a normal woman whom you can harm! Dare to touch me!" I paused, then thundered, "Devi Maa ki saugandh!! Iss Gao ko rakt snan nhi karwaya toh humaraa naam bhi Amrita Singh Shekhawat nhi!!" (I swear in the name of Goddess Mother!! If this village is not given a blood bath then my name is not Amrita Singh Shekhawat!!)

Many of them flinched, unsettled by my fierce form.

"Acha! First you went against our ritual of sati pratha and helped that woman escape, and now you threaten us?" shouted Rakha, the sarpanch's son.

I scoffed, "Take it as my warning, my threat, or my order—whatever you want. But remember, it will only benefit you."

"Are you mad? How dare you talk like this to rajkumari—" an elderly man began, but Rakha pushed him aside.
"You have so much pride on yourself, don't you? These villagers consider you a goddess? Then let me destroy your pride first!"

He walked toward me, his men holding back the villagers. I stood there fearlessly, ready to face him. Just as his hands reached for my dupatta, a dagger came flying and pierced his hand.

Blood splattered on my face. I froze for a second, breathing heavily, then turned. A man was riding in on a horse. His teeth clenched, his eyes blazing with fury, wind blowing around him as if time itself had stopped.

He halted the horse, got down, and strode straight to Rakha. Without hesitation, he grabbed his collar, ignoring Rakha's scream.

Gasps spread through the crowd, fear reflecting in every pair of eyes.

"Who the hell do you think you are?" the man growled dangerously.

Just then, the sarpanch came running and dropped to his knees, pleading, "Kunwarsa!! Please leave my son, please!"

Then—the man, the Abhiraj Singh Rajput. My brother's best friend.
The name my mother once whispered as my future. Not a stranger, not even after five long years ...turned to me, and yes... his blazing eyes softened.

No One's POV

Soon, Vihaan arrived and was shocked at the scene before him.
"Amrita!!" he shouted. Everyone turned toward him. He rushed to his sister, checking her face.

"Blood!" he muttered, seeing the red stains on her skin. His gaze then shifted to Rakha.

"Bhaisa!" Vihaan addressed Abhiraj, who was still gripping Rakha.
"Kuwarsa! Yuvraj! Please forgive my son!" cried the sarpanch.

"How can I forgive someone who dared to touch a woman and ruin her pride?!" Abhiraj roared, his hand tightening around Rakha's neck.

Understanding what had happened, Vihaan's own rage exploded. He punched Rakha again and again.
"How dare you touch my sister! My pride!"

He hit him so much that Rakha was about to faint when Amrita rushed in and stopped him. Vihaan instantly pulled back.

Amrita stood tall and declared, "From today onwards, there will be no sati pratha in this village!!"

The sarpanch, trembling, pulled his son up and began thanking Abhiraj and Vihaan for showing mercy.

"Stop!" Abhiraj ordered, his voice cold. "Your son must apologize to the princess."

The sarpanch and his son quickly bowed before Amrita, begging forgiveness.

Vihaan then said firmly, "We should reach the palace now. We'll deal with this later."

The three of them entered the jeep—Vihaan in the driver's seat, Abhiraj beside him, and Amrita in the back.

"How many times! How many times have I told you not to interfere in village matters?!" Vihaan scolded.

"What's my fault? They were about to burn that woman alive!" Amrita shot back.

"You've gone mad since you came back!" he snapped.

"What mad? Ha! I did nothing wr—" she was cut off by Abhiraj's calm yet chilling voice.
"Listen, girl. We know your intentions weren't wrong. But you are a princess. You should stay away from such matters."

His grey eyes locked with her hazel ones through the mirror. For a moment, neither of them blinked.

Soon, they reached the haveli. Abhiraj was about to walk to the front door when Vihaan stopped him, pointing at the bloodstain on his arm. So, they quietly entered through the back door.

Inside, they saw Ranveer and Sonakshi.

"Bhaiya..." Amrita's voice broke the silence.

Ranveer and Sonakshi both turned, eyes widening.

"Are you okay?" Sonakshi rushed to check Amrita.

"I'm fine, Bhabhima," she assured, then glanced at Ranveer. "Why were you holding Bhabhi's arm so tightly?"

"Amrita!" Sonakshi glared at her.

"Sonakshi, take her to the bedroom," Ranveer ordered. Then he turned to Abhiraj, noticing the bloodstain, he asked about it.

"We shouldn't talk about this fuss created by this girl right now," Abhiraj said coldly.

"This girl has a name. Amrita. Remember that," Amrita shot back furiously—only to get sharp glares from her brothers... and a smirk from Abhiraj.
